Hello bloggers, today we are going to talk about, the citadel of Machu Picchu in Cusco, Peru, frequently asked questions and advice. Read more in the blog.
Machupicchu is the main attraction of the city of Cusco and Peru, access to this place is complicated as it can only be reached by train or a walk that takes from 1 to more days depending on the route we take. Which forces us to spend one night in the town of Aguas Calientes before visiting the citadel of Machu Picchu.
If you want to visit Machu Picchu is a single day, this will be possible only by boarding a train from the station of Poroy or Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes and then take the bus from here to the citadel of Machu Picchu. The companies Peru Rail and Inca Rail, with frequent departures on tourist trains that some even offer on-board food and live show, offer the trains. Of these two companies, Peru Rail has the largest number of train departures and offers services on its Expedition, Vistadome and Hiram Bingham trains.
In Cusco city:
San Pedro Station
Hours of operation: 07:00 hours to 2:00 p.m.
Hours of operation: 08:00 hours to 15:00 hours.
And in Ollantaytambo:
Hours of operation: 04:30 hours to 18:30 hours.
Regardless of the season in which you buy your train ticket you must be half an hour before at the Ollantaytambo station to board the train.
What are the local train schedules?
The departure times for the local train are the following:

Characteristics of the local train
It is a subsidized train, currently has 05 carriages for passengers and some other cargo and as we mentioned, is a train that can only be used by Peruvians, and the only way to address it, is presenting the DNI (national document) of identity).
In fact, cars are not very comfortable, although the Peru Rail page says otherwise; In addition, on this train it is allowed to transport passengers standing and loading in the corridors.
The established schedules can be modified due to weather issues, problems on the road or by others outside the company. Peru Rail is the only company that offers the local train service.
If you prefer another type of service, ask for trains such as the Expedition or the Vistadome, or if you want to travel in the Hiram Bingham (one of the most luxurious trains in the world).
The availability and availability of local train seats will depend solely on Peru Rail.
We recommend you arrive in the city of Cusco about 2 to 3 days before the date you have planned to visit Machu Picchu, since it is very difficult to find places for the same day. The day of your arrival in Cusco, the first thing you should do is go to one of the stations in Cusco described above and buy your ticket, and with the ticket you can buy your entrance to Machu Picchu and the time you should choose.
